Rhinebeck roundup
Yesterday was the most glorious weather imaginable, as you can see from this photo of the border collie trials at Rhinebeck. (I hate saying “border collie trials”, it makes it sound like the poor things belong on CourtTV, but you know what I mean)…
There were llamas and goats, of course…
…and my friend Tony, who came along to have a capital-A Adventure with me. Here, he’s holding the fleece I bought (with a tiny inset, so you can see what it looks like up close), and next to him are some punk rock alpacas with funny haircuts:
Though truly, the fleece de resistance (apologies for out of control pun), was this Shetland sheep getting a trim:
Believe me, that sheep did more “But Mooooooom!” protest faces than a human child checking out a plate of broccoli. She’d twist her head towards one arm and rub it (thinking “maybe if I’m really cute and kiss her arm, she’ll stop the haircut”), then make a plaintive little baaa!, then grit her little sheep teeth and pout. It was the funniest thing I’ve ever seen.
In spinning news, the fleece has been washed and is currently drying on my balcony. Or attempting to dry, anyway, it’s damp outside and the breeze is my only saving grace so far as drying the whole thing before December.
I finally laid hands on a copy of Debbie Stoller’s new book, and I could kick myself for not getting it together in time to contribute a pattern when she asked. It’s probably the coolest knitting book I’ve ever seen, and I’m on the waitlist at Mind’s Eye for a copy.
Sigh. Next time…
